When I draw, I begin with an idea. I roughly sketch the idea on paper and slowly defining it, adding to it so that my idea becomes a form on paper. Once my sketch is complete, I use a fine liner pen to create an outline. Then it's time to add the patterns and details that come to represent my work. I have a few favorite patterns, but typically, I sit back and look at what is before me and decide what goes where to help detail the piece on which I am working. Playing with contrast, using pencil to create shading and inevitably what sits before me is a completed artwork. There are times where the piece benefits from adding metallic inks, gold foil or watercolors (another favorite medium of mine) to create the final artwork. Combining all of these details plus any additional mediums add to the complexity, energy and distinctiveness of my work.
